Fed is not “Best” and Breast is not “Best”

fed is best

We all know that breastmilk is how we as humans have survived to live today and is the biological norm and standard of infant feeding. Therefore, anything else carries risks that we share for mothers to make informed decisions rather than being told: “it doesn’t matter either way.” Because this is not true. However, this doesn’t mean I believe “breast is best” should be a thing.

Do We Need to Normalize Formula?

Your baby being fed is a necessity.

“Fed is best” is unnecessary. We don’t need this phrase to normalize formula because it already is normalized. Way too normalized, actually.

Additionally, we live in a society where most people find breastfeeding and breastmilk disgusting. People act like they’re terrified to put breastmilk into their coffee accidentally, but your cow’s milk with high-fructose corn syrup is fine? Really?

Furthermore, some are appalled by wet-nursing (a mom breastfeeding another woman’s baby/child); however, they don’t even know the mammal that made the drink or food they’re having.

Formula feeding is too normalized because we (as a society) are so accepting of bottle-feeding and against women breastfeeding in public. This has to change. Check out, Breastfeeding in Public Will Better Our Society. (Coming soon!)

The Problem With “Breast is Best”

breast is best

However, no, I don’t support the “breast is best” saying either. We should be sensitive and supportive to those failed by our healthcare system, who cant anatomically breastfeed, have to go under chemotherapy, etc.

What is Best?

Best is:

  • education on normal newborn behavior and breastfeeding
  • making breastfeeding the norm to help support other mothers and ecourage moms to-be
  • Supporting mothers who had to discontinue breastfeeding
  • knowing when and where to recieve lactation help
  • having a support system and supportive society to help you make informed decisions about breastfeeding and formula feeding.

We got this, by supporting each other together. You are encouraged, educated, and empowered!
